SCHOOL NEWS — WCI Orchestras and Band stunned students and teachers of regional elementary schools during the anticipated Feeder School Trip on November 23, 2022.
Musicians arrived at Northlake Woods at 8:15 AM and began performing from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They later transitioned to MacGregor and performed from 11:15 to 12:15 PM. Finally, musicians performed at Centennial from 1:55 to 2:55 PM.
With six talented groups and musicians, the Junior Orchestra (9), Band (9-12), Intermediate Orchestra (10), Choir (9-12), Senior Chamber Orchestra (11-12), and Senior Orchestra (11-12) surprised many at Northlake Woods, MacGregor Public School, and Centennial Public School with exciting renditions of well-known favourites.

WCI Orchestras have a wide variety of songs in their arsenal—from classical pieces to well-known favourites. Junior Orchestra played “Wexford Circle,” composed by Elliot A Del Borgo, while Choir performed “Fix You,” by Coldplay and “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” (arr. Jeff Funk), followed by Intermediate Orchestra with “Christmas Even Sarajevo,” a seasonal favourite for watchers of The Office and This Is Us.
After Intermediate Orchestra, Band followed with the “Polar Express Theme” and “Augustus Gloop” from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Finally, the talented Senior Chamber performed “Irish Junkyard Jam” by Bryan Balmages and “Overture to Messiah” by George Frideric Handel.
The showstopper of the night? Senior Orchestra with the widely-favourite “Black Swan” by Korean pop band BTS and “Tango Por Una Cabeza” with a solo performance from Senior Orchestra concertmaster Kasumi Yajima. View the rendition song below.
On all accounts, the atmosphere was lively, and and musicians had a wonderful time performing. Finally, expect Orchestras and Ensembles to prepare and perform for their upcoming Winter concert on Thursday, December 8th.
