Back to a Normal School Year! What Do Grade 12s Think?

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

YEARBOOK — The last 3 years have truly been hectic for the graduating class of 2023. It's been nothing like the typical high school experience you would expect to see, especially in comparison to what you've been told since childhood or what you see on the big screens. Full of masks, social distancing, and falling asleep in online classes, the 2020-2022 school years have really been an experience. Finally, with COVID-19 slowing down and this new school year going back to normal, it's safe to say that many students have mixed feelings about it. The Grade 12s, in particular, finally have a full year of in-person — regular schooling where they can see their friends, socialize, and truly leave high school with at least one year to remember. Here's how the Grade 12s of WCI feel about this new school year.

“It’s really scary. It's exciting to be able to see all my friends again and have school events but I feel like I'm not really prepared for university and didn't really get a chance to learn how to study properly.” ‒ Anonymous

It’s true, a lot of Grade 12s might be feeling very anxious going into this new school year and that's completely okay! There are many ways to help with this anxiety, whether it's talking to a friend, parent, school counsellor, or anyone you trust. There are always going to be people that are here and ready to help when it comes to how you're feeling.

“I'm so glad we're back to normal, I couldn't stand another year of remote learning. I'm glad I could finally have a normal high school experience for at least of my years here.” ‒ Anonymous

Ah yes! Back to a normal year. For the first time, the graduating class of 2023 can have a normal year of high school, with their last one being in Grade 9, which was cut short in the second semester due to the start of the pandemic.

There we have it folks, here were just a couple of thoughts from WCI’s Grade 12s. It seems like everyone is excited about what this new school year has to offer.
