OPINION — Have you ever opened up your phone after waking up in the morning, and seen the words: “BREAKING NEWS…..” Maybe you thought, ‘What is it this time? Another mass shooting? An environmental disaster?’
For the past few years, especially since 2020, we’ve gotten used to seeing these headlines. Perhaps, we’ve gotten a bit desensitized to them as well. 2020 was filled with this news - the pandemic, BLM protests, global warming… It feels like there is no end.
Maybe there’s feelings of doom too. You’ve probably heard the words, “Global warming is gonna destroy the earth completely in the next 20 years.” It’s really easy to feel helpless when things out of your control are affecting you so much.
Well, the good news? It’s not out of our control. At least… not completely.
Obviously, it’s easy to feel helpless when you’re a teenager with no real ‘power’ over anything. However, the good news? Little things help too! Often, it’s the seemingly little things that make the biggest difference.
Whether that is recycling more to help the environment, or educating yourself on racism, or donating a few dollars to a charity… Your actions make a difference! We’re not completely doomed if we’re all in this together.
